Aston Villa have announced that defender Björn Engels has joined the club from Stade Reims.
The French side purchased him permanently before the end of last season from Olympiacos, who had loaned him to the Ligue 1 outfit.
Villa have now moved to sign him for an undisclosed fee, reportedly in the region of £9m.
Speaking about the acquisition, coach Dean Smith admitted that it was a move that has been on his mind for some time.
“Björn is a player who I’ve been watching for the past 18 months,” he told Villa’s official website.
“We’re very happy to have secured his services and look forward to working with him.”
It is the second central defensive arrival in the space of a week after Tyrone Mings arrived from Bournemouth.
