Though playing time didn’t always come regularly for Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Ukraine international locked down Manchester City’s left-back spot at the tail-end of last season and hasn’t relinquished it since.
The 22-year-old was offered the chance to take his talents to Napoli over the summer but instead signed a new contract which will keep him in Manchester until 2024.
In an interview with Italy’s Radio Marte, Zinchenko’s agent, Alan Prudnikov, confirmed that both he and Zinchenko believe that his choice to remain with Pep Guardiola’s side was the correct one.
“Zinchenko in the past near Napoli? In hindsight, we can say that staying in Manchester City was the right choice,” Prudnikov said.
“We are grateful to Guardiola for the chance he gave the boy to develop and play. Zinchenko renewed last summer with City and is focused on the English club, he wants to win many trophies.
“With Guardiola he plays at fullback, but he can do at least four roles and today he is focused on City, but in football never say never.
“One day it would be nice to beat Ronaldo also in Serie A, but it is necessary that Cristiano does not retire also because at the moment Zinchenko’s future is at City.”
Zinchenko joined City in 2016 from Russian side Ufa for a paltry £1.7m.
