Major League Soccer is about to lose one of their most influential playmakers.

Over the weekend, Yamil Asad, who spent the 2018 season with D.C. United, told Argentine radio station Vélez 670 that he intends to play the second half of the Superliga season with his parent club, Vélez Sarsfield.

“Now my head is with Vélez,” Asad said in an interview with the Vélez 670 radio show.

“I decided to stay and I hope to take advantage of this second chance.

“I want to show that with everything I did in the United States, I now have more experience. I had offers, but I do not want to go on loan anymore.”

In 62 regular season matches with Atlanta United and D.C. United, Asad scored 16 goals and added 16 assists.

Last season, D.C. gave up $200,000 in 2018 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $100,000 in 2018 Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) in addition to $100,000 in 2019 GAM and $100,000 in 2019 TAM to acquire Asad’s MLS rights from Atlanta United.

D.C. United had an option to purchase the player outright from Vélez Sarsfield for $700,000 at the end of the 2018 season, however, D.C. United declined due to salary cap budget concerns.

All hope is not lost, however, as D.C. United are reportedly still attempting to purchase Asad on a permanent basis.

Through 15 matches of the Superliga season, Vélez Sarsfield are currently in fifth place on 25 points, 11 points behind Racing Club.
