Nigeria picked up their first points of the tournament and all but ended South Korea’s hopes of reaching the last-16 in the process.

An own goal from Kim Do-yeon opened the scoring in Grenoble before Asisat Oshoala wrapped things up with a super solo goal in the second half.

The Super Falcons will confirm their place in the knockout round if they beat France on Monday, but they could also qualify as one of the four best third-placed teams.

In the second match of the day, Germany made it two wins from two when they narrowly overcame Spain in Valenciennes.

Sara Däbritz’s first half goal effectively sent the side ranked number two in the world through to the last-16, while Spain could now be relying on a positive result from their final group game against China on Monday.

And in the day’s late kick-off, hosts France more-or-less booked their spot in the next round in controversial fashion.

Valérie Gauvin got the ball rolling just after half-time in Nice but Les Bleues were soon pegged back thanks to a shocking Wendie Renard own goal.

However, it wasn’t long until they were back in front thanks to a highly contentious penalty decision from referee Bibiana Steinhaus.

Ingrid Engen was accused of fouling Marion Torrent and after a long consultation with the VAR, Eugénie Le Sommer dispatched what proved to be the winning goal from the spot.

The Lyon forward now has five World Cup goals to her name, which equals Marie-Laure Delie’s record as France’s all-time leading goalscorer at the tournament.
