Wolves have been left shaking their heads at VAR after its debut weekend in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were denied a win at Leicester after Leander Dendoncker’s would-be-winner was ruled out for handball.

The midfielder seemed to have scored the only goal of the game but he had his effort chalked off after Willy Boly had inadvertently handled the ball in the build-up.

Wolves were aggrieved and none more so than captain Conor Coady.

“It is a goal,” Coady said in his post-match interview, per Leicestershire Live.

“People will say they have VAR and it has hit his hand, but he is not looking at the ball.

“We are going to have to play with our hands chopped off in future.

“If that is not a goal there is a problem. No-one appealed for it.”

Boly’s handball was entirely accidental and the goal still would have stood last season.

Now, though, any handball – intentional or otherwise – will be punished if it aids the attacking team.

“Common sense is Boly is not looking at the ball and not put his hand in the way to knock it down for himself and then shoot,” Coady added.

“He can’t do anything about it. They have brought VAR in to rectify all those problems but I think it has gone too far the other way now.”

VAR had a controversial first outing in England’s top flight after Manchester City had a goal chalked off for offside on Saturday, then another goal awarded despite a lack of clarity over the offside line.
