Wolves’ transfer committee was in attendance at the Gold Cup final on Sunday to try and seal a deal to land Mexico’s highly-rated Edson Álvarez.

Álvarez has been one of El Tri’s key men in their continental triumph this summer and has previously been linked with the likes of Ajax, Crystal Palace and West Ham.

The 21-year-old, who currently sits at the base of midfield for Ámerica, is thought to be available for around €18m and De Telegraaf believe that Wolves are, right now, favourites for his signature.

They say that some club representatives were at the Gold Cup final to speak to Álbvarez and his agent, in a bid to persuade him to come to Molineux.

Álvarez has previously admitted that playing in the Premier League is “a dream”.
