When Real Madrid are involved in a transfer battle for a player, there’s usually only one winner.

But remarkably, Wolverhampton Wanderers appear to have beaten the Spanish giants to the signing of Valencia youngster Rafa Mir.

According to reports last week, Los Blancos were set to sign the 20-year-old forward in a €500,000 deal and he would play for the club’s Castilla youth team.

However, Spanish outlet Superdeporte claim Mir has instead agreed to join the Championship side for €2 million (£1.7m) and will soon sign a four-year contract at Molineux.

Mir has so far made just two appearances for Valencia’s senior team but has notched up an impressive 15 goals in 19 appearances for the club’s Mestalla reserve side, which plays in Spain’s third tier.

Wolves – who are managed by former Valencia boss Nuno Espirito Santo – are currently nine points clear at the top of the Championship while Madrid are currently 14 points adrift of leaders Barcelona in La Liga.

No brainer.
