Declan Rice has said Saturday’s 1-0 win away at Chelsea was “typical” of the inconsistency that West Ham have shown down through the years.

The Hammers started the weekend just three points and one place above the drop zone after a horrendous recent run of results.

However, a 48th-minute Aaron Cresswell goal was enough to secure a famous victory at Stamford Bridge and lift the pressure on the Irons.

Speaking to the official West Ham website, Rice said: “It’s typical West Ham in a way – don’t win in eight and then produce a performance like that!

“It shows we have still got the grit, the desire and the determination to go out there and put in a performance like that.”

Rice revealed that a stirring pre-game team talk by captain Mark Noble provided the inspiration for the spirited display.

“You know what? Nobes got us together before the game and, with a couple of swear words in there, told us we had to be up for the game today.

“It’s a London derby, we hadn’t won in eight and if we’d lost we would have been bang in trouble and we knew. We worked on our gameplan and frustrated Chelsea and even thought it was 1-0, I thought it could have been much more.

“We thoroughly deserved to win today and you can see I’m absolutely buzzing!”

Next up is a midweek trip to Wolves before West Ham welcome Arsenal for yet another London derby on Monday, December 8.
