The 36-year-old has also impressed enough in his sporadic duty to earn a call-up to the Argentina squad.

However, there is still no word on the future of Thibaut Courtois, whose contract is also set to expire in 2019.

Chelsea will do all they can to prevent Courtois from walking away for free and remain hopeful that the Belgian will renew his contract.

However, the London club will have to fight off PSG and Real Madrid for the 25-year-old, who has openly spoke of his interest in returning to Madrid, where he spent three seasons on loan at Atlético.
