Newcastle reportedly decided against joining the deadline day race for Hull forward Jarrod Bowen, believing that he was overpriced.
Reports suggested that Bowen actually favoured joining the Magpies, despite Crystal Palace and West Ham agreeing £16m and £22m deals respectively.
According to Star Sport, Newcastle felt the prices being quoted were ‘far too extreme’ and opted to save money for summer business instead.
Manager Steve Bruce insists the club were unable to sign a striker who would have improved the current options available to him.
“If you look through the whole frontline you can level it at us all. But that has been the case since August,” he told reporters.
They were, however, able to exploit the loan market by bringing in Valentin Lazaro, Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose.
