Where are they now? The teams from the last Clásico semi-final

Real Madrid and Barcelona go head-to-head in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Spanish giants last met at this stage of the competition back in 2013 so we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane.

Here’s what the stars of that particular second leg duel are up to now.

Barcelona

José Manuel Pinto

The goalkeeper left the Nou Camp in 2014 and hung up his gloves in the same year. Having worked as a record producer during his career, he released a charity rap single with Dani Alves.

Dani Alves

After eight trophy-laden years with Barcelona (and one charity rap single), the marauding wing-back was snapped up on a free transfer by Juventus and won the double. After just a season he joined PSG and scooped three trophies. Though 35 now, he remains in the French capital.

Gerard Piqué

The Spain star has been an integral figure at Camp Nou and remains an important member of the team – nearing 500 appearances for the Catalan giants, since 2013, Pique has won a trio of LaLiga titles, the Copa del Rey three times as well as the Champions League.

Carles Puyol

A leader on and off the pitch, Puyol retired in 2014 following nearly two decades with the club. The defender is now an agent and recently revealed he did not want to be a coach. However, he was curiously linked with the Atlanta United job last month.

Jordi Alba

One of the best left-backs in Europe, Alba turns 30 this year and still has plenty of seasons left in the tank – a driving attacking force from deep, the defender is a useful offensive weapon and a solid performer.

Sergio Busquets

Now the main midfield general at Camp Nou, the general is the brain of the team in the centre of the park and has grown into a commanding figure filling the huge void left by his former team-mates.

Xavi

One of the greatest players to come through the La Masia academy, Xavi was a key figure and reason for Barcelona’s dominance. After 767 appearances for the club, the Spaniard left and signed for Al Sadd in Qatar, where he won the lottery and didn’t even know it.

Cesc Fàbregas

The Barcelona youth player who burst onto the scene with Arsenal returned to the Premier League with Chelsea and reclaimed his crown as the assist king. Now 31, Fàbregas joined Monaco last month to reunite with Thierry Henry only for the Frenchman to be dismissed soon after.

Pedro

The winger switched LaLiga for a new challenge in the Premier League and joined Chelsea in 2015. He has started fairly regularly for the Blues, with plenty of cameos from the bench, and has lit up England with some stunning strikes among his 35 goals in 162 appearances.

Lionel Messi

The main man and arguably the greatest footballer in the world is still at the peak of his powers in Catalonia and continues to single-handily win games of football.

Andrés Iniesta

Part of a sensational double act with Xavi, Iniesta remained until last year when he too swapped Europe for a new continent, joining Vissel Kobe in Japan.

Real Madrid

Diego López

The Spaniard remains in LaLiga and has made 13 appearances for Espanyol this season at the age of 37 having joined following a spell with Milan in Italy.

Álvaro Arbeloa

Now 36, the former Liverpool defender remained at Real Madrid until 2016 before retiring after three appearances back in England with West Ham

Raphaël Varane

Still a teen for the 2013 clash, Varane is very much one of Europe’s best centre-backs, a major part of Real’s Champions League successes and a World Cup winner with France to boot.

Sergio Ramos

The ultimate leader and warrior for Real Madrid, he’s guided this side with a final level of authority and nasty. He is a fine Los Blancos captain.

Fábio Coentrão

A great talent who was perhaps unfortunate to see Marcelo blocking his path to the first-team, the Portugal international, still just 30, spent three seasons on loan at Monaco and Sporting Lisbon before returning to his homeland to rejoin his first club Rio Ave in the summer.

Xabi Alonso

After leaving for Bayern Munich in 2014, the former Liverpool man is back with Real as one of a number of former players now coaching the club’s youth players.

Sami Khedira

After five seasons in the Spanish capital, the German was another stunning free transfer capture by Juventus. The German has made more than 100 appearances for the Bianconeri though his spell in Turin has been beset by niggling injuries.

Ángel Di María

The Argentine moved to Manchester United in 2014 as the Old Trafford club splurged money in a bid to ease the loss of legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson. He ultimately flopped before being rescued by PSG where he is back to his best.

Mesut Özil

Just months after the Copa Del Rey semi-final, the Germany star made the move to Arsenal where he has somehow impressed and failed to convince in equal measure over the last five years. With doubts remaining over his future, the midfielder could again be on the move in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Messi’s one true rival for the mantle of world’s best player, Ronaldo was the talismanic menace who dragged Real to dominate Europe but swapped Real for Juventus for a new challenge in a mega summer deal.

Gonzalo Higuain

Another player who left the Bernabèu soon after the cup showdown, Higuain enjoyed huge goalscoring success at Napoli and earned himself a move to Juventus. However, he soon made way to Milan in the summer following the arrival of Ronaldo and is now trying his hand in England, signing for Chelsea in January.
