West Ham have a lot to be excited about in their youth academy as of late, particularly in the defensive third.

After starring in the U-18s last season, 15-year-old centre-back Jamal Baptiste has been sensational over the last week in the U-23s, helping his side to consecutive clean sheet victories over Valencia and West Bromwich Albion.

The win, that was earned with 17-year-old Joe Anang in goal, extended the U-23s’ unbeaten run to 14 games.

“To have a 15-year-old ahead of him (Anang), Jamal Baptiste, really shows the level of talent that is at the West Ham academy,” U-23s boss Dmitri Halajko said.

“We’ve got a 15-year-old here that can play Under-23s level football, and help us to get two clean sheets on the bounce.”

Now, we’ll have to see whether the U-16 England international will become the next Rio Ferninand or the next Reece Oxford.
