10 Sporting Kansas City [9-6-5] (-1)

Going up 2-1 on the road put Sporting in control given their usually strong back-line. Kansas City wasn’t able to hold on at Red Bull Arena but they can bounce back with a solid performance at home on the weekend.

9 Houston Dynamo [7-5-6] (-1)

Dynamo fans would have marked a trip to Colorado as a winnable contest and the score-less draw at the second-bottom team in the Western Conference is disappointing. Houston have enough threats either in the run of play or from headers on set pieces to climb up the standings but can’t let the Rapids result bog them down.

8 Montreal Impact [9-0-12] (++)

With Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Earthquakes, Montreal have now won five of their last six MLS matches. A win in the Canadian Championship semi-final first leg over Vancouver on Wednesday should add to the positive momentum for the Québec club.

7 LA Galaxy [8-4-7] (++)

In the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimović, the Galaxy saw Chris Pontius cap off a come-from-behind win. The veteran, now with his third MLS team, scored a brace on the road at New England and now the Galaxy haven’t lost in six MLS matches since May 30.

6 LAFC [10-5-4] (-1)

When Adama Diomande started scoring for LAFC last month, it seemed like he’d never stop, but that’s what happened on the weekend against Portland. LA couldn’t make any of their 11 corner kicks count but the team can use Wednesday’s Open Cup victory to keep morale high as the team challenges for the top spot in the west.

5 New York Red Bulls [11-2-5] (NC)

When they looked dusted on Saturday, Marc Rzatkowski stepped up and changed the game. If Chris Armas establishes himself as manager and the team continues to get goals from midfield, Red Bulls will push the top in the east with their games in hand. New York’s comeback win against Sporting bodes well for the team’s resilience heading into the summer stretch.

4 FC Dallas [11-5-3] (+2)

Dallas hit 23 shots and strung together 548 passes en route to a 3-1 win over Chicago. The Western Conference leaders have putting together those kinds of numbers all year and have the tools to create distance between themselves and the rest of the west.

3 Portland Timbers [8-6-3] (NC)

The Timbers went on the road to one of the toughest venues in the Western Conference and came out with a point and a clean sheet. Giovanni Savarese continues to impress in his first season with Portland

2 Atlanta United [12-5-4] (-1)

Disappointed not to force the go-ahead goal against Seattle, Gerardo Martino’s players have to regroup after taking just 4 points from their last 3 games before focusing on Eastern Conference opposition in upcoming weeks.

1 NYCFC [12-4-4] (+3)

New York’s boys in blue left it late but finished a strong performance in emphatic fashion against Columbus. NYC’s 2-0 win over the Crew was their fifth straight victory in league play as they close within one point of Atlanta in the Supporters’ Shield race.
