Although Chelsea appear to have had a good season on paper, former defender Wayne Bridge is very concerned about the direction the club are heading in.
The Blues are currently preparing for a Europa League final date with Arsenal in Azerbaijan, their second cup final of the season.
In addition, they have already secured Champions League football for the 2019/20 campaign.
But with question marks remaining over coach Maurizio Sarri, Eden Hazard set to leave and a transfer ban hanging over them, Bridge isn’t feeling optimistic.
“The season probably could have been a lot worse because they’ve been really inconsistent,” said Bridge, quoted by Press Association Sport.
“You can see that the fans aren’t very happy. I don’t think the players are happy and the manager probably isn’t either.
“I’m surprised he’s still there because with the transfer ban and everything, what is he going to do?
“The way Chelsea are at the moment, they could end up going through a pretty bad spell.
“Will they compete for the title? I don’t think so, unless there’s no transfer ban and the manager can bring in the players he wants.
“Or a new manager could come in and change things up a bit because it has been a poor season.”
Poor season it may be in Bridge’s mind but the Blues do have the chance to end it with silverware by beating Arsenal in Baku in midweek.
