With Cássio picking up a red card in the 62nd-minute of their second-leg Copa do Brasil third-round clash with Ceará, Corinthians’ long-time reserve goalkeeper Walter will fill in for their first-leg match with Chapecoense.

Corinthians have admitted that in an effort to find a younger reserve replacement and to give the 31-year-old a chance to get first-team experience elsewhere, Walter’s contract will not be renewed at the end of the season.

With Walter getting the rare nod over Cássio, he has accepted that this will be one of the last matches he gets to play in a Corinthians shirt.

“I leave it to God and hard work. I work hard every day as best I can. It is to go in and work and to be ready when the opportunities come,” Walter said.

“Dude, I  always have had the desire. I do not want to leave here for a relatively smaller team. I want to be on a great team and it is great here.

“It was always like this, there is a lot going on and on.”

After the Chapecoense match, Corinthians will face São Paulo in the second leg of the Campeonato Paulista final.

The two sides drew 0-0 in the first leg.
