With just one year left on his costly contract, Leeds are looking to get former Newcastle defender Vurnon Anita off the books.

Anita spent last season on loan at Dutch minnows Willem II but failed to make a good impression, managing to make just 14 Eredivisie starts.

While Panathinaikos have been keen to bring in the 30-year-old, the Greek side and Anita’s representatives have not been able to agree to personal terms.

Though Greek outlet Sdna claimed Anita was demanding €700,000-a-year (€13,500-a-week), the player denied such claims on his Instagram story, claiming the story as ‘fake news’.

Now, according to reports, Anita is looking for a move to Major League Soccer.

Anita arrived at Leeds from Newcastle in summer 2017 on a free transfer but only made 22 appearances for the club.
