After the re-signing of Mario Gómez, VfB Stuttgart are interested in signing another established forward.

According to reports from Ruhr Nachrichten, the Bundesliga club could sign André Schürrle on loan.

The 27-year-old is Borussia Dortmund’s record signing, having joined for €30m from VfL Wolfsburg in 2016, but has made just one Bundesliga start this season.

With Marco Reus set to return from injury and Schürrle already behind Christian Pulisic, Andriy Yarmolenko, Maximilian Philipp and Raphaël Guerreiro in the pecking order, he doesn’t seem likely to play more when the Bundesliga returns in January.

Stuttgart have already captured the signing of Mario Gómez this winter as they look to improve on their record of just 13 goals in 17 Bundesliga games so far this season.

Head coach of Stuttgart Hannes Wolf was a youth coach at Dortmund and retains a good relationship with the club, signing Dzenis Burnic (on loan) and Orel Mangala in the summer.

Kicker say there has not yet been any contact between Stuttgart and Schürrle but a deal would suit all parties.
