After a number of weeks of testing, Liga MX is ready to introduce VAR.
Friday evening’s game between Atlas vs Tiburones Veracruz will be the first game in Liga MX history to use video technology.
Referee Adonai Escobedo will be responsible for the game and the use of VAR.
“It will only be used for penalty incidents, red card decisions, goals, identifying players, or reviewing incidents not seen by the officials,” said Arturo Brizio, president of the Referees Committee.
“We have 20 referees trained with the VAR, in addition to a large infrastructure supported by the television and the clubs.”
Plans are in place for VAR to be officially certified for use across the league in time for the 16th matchday.
