The Reds’ clean sheet means they have conceded just three times in the top flight so far this term – the side’s lowest ever tally after their opening nine league fixtures.
While they sit joint top of the Premier League alongside Manchester City, Van Dijk insists there is still work to be done after a less than convincing performance.
“In the end it is!” Van Dijk told the club’s official website. “I’m just happy with the clean sheet and the goal, obviously.
“In the beginning you want to play good football and score hopefully as many goals as possible, but this game was to grind it out – especially at the end.
“Every team in the Premier League has their strengths and I think especially with their fans and a smaller ground it’s always going to be difficult.
“We still have things to learn, but at the end we should be very happy that we won – especially keeping the clean sheet.”
