The United States did a poor job in possession in the first half and allowed Colombia to dictate the pace from the onset, but were able to make the match interesting in the second half.

Just about 10 minutes before the half-time whistle, James Rodríguez came up with a moment of magic. He was able to turn in a tight area and spectacularly curl his strike into the top corner.

Minutes later, Falcao hit a well-struck volley that was saved well by Zack Steffen.

Just before the half, James nearly doubled Colombia’s advantage with a hard shot from close range, but Matt Miazga did well to get back and clear the ball off the line.

The United States looked much better in the second half and quickly came up with an equaliser shortly after play resumed.

Wigan defender Antonee Robinson, on loan from Everton, served up a delicious cross that Kellyn Acosta smashed home for his second international goal after the ball took a slight touch off of Davinson Sánchez.

Just a few minutes later, the United States took the lead. Julian Green got stuck in on a tackle and started a quick counterattack, which led to PSG’s Timothy Weah finding Bobby Wood with a beautiful pass to make it 2-1.

The lead was gone as soon as it came, however, as Colombia made it 2-2 just a couple minutes later through Carlos Bacca. Juan Fernando Quintero, who had come on seconds earlier, slipped in Santiago Arias who cut the ball back to Bacca for the equaliser.

Colombia’s comeback was complete in the 74th minute, as Falcao calmly scored his 32nd career international goal.

Off a clearance, Antonee Robinson was muscled off the ball, and Colombia quickly strung a pair of passes before Falcao put the ball in the back of the net.

Five minutes later, Colombia put an exclamation mark on an exciting night of football. Moments after coming on, Miguel Borja scored a spectacular golazo after a great cross and hold up play by James.

The United States will look to regroup when they face Peru on Tuesday, while Colombia will play Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena the same night.

Juan Cuadrado came off in the 55th minute after he couldn’t play through a knee injury, which will cause some concern amongst Juventus fans.
