The United States and Peru battled to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, as both sides put out experimental rosters for the friendly clash.

USA gave debuts to Reggie Cannon, Aaron Long, and Jonathan Amon – who all earned places in the starting XI – while Brad Guzan made his first international appearance in 13 months.

Although Peru dominated with 70 per cent possession in the first half, neither side would have a meaningful goal-scoring opportunity, as the United States were happy to absorb the pressure.

In the second half, the United States came out on fire and scored just four minutes later.

Moments after Timothy Weah fizzed a shot just wide of the post, 18-year-old Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen) put the United States ahead 1-0 off a wonderfully-worked set piece.

Brad Guzan was finally forced into making a save in the 70th minute, although Yoshi Yotun’s effort from 25 yards out had no chance to worry the Americans.

Peru kept up the momentum and five minutes later, they had their best chance of the match to that point.

Andy Polo’s long-range blast would have been the goal of the night, but his effort came out off the bottom of the crossbar.

Peru finally made the breakthrough in the 86th minute when Edison Flores got on the end of Andy Polo’s beautiful cross.

The United States may have a new manager for their November friendlies against England and Italy, as general manager Earnie Stewart has vowed to make a decision around 1 November.

Peru will face another CONCACAF opponent on 20 November, as they’ll take on Costa Rica.
