Unai Emery admits Héctor Bellerín may have suffered an “important injury” after being stretchered off against Chelsea on Saturday.

The 23-year-old went down without contact after stretching for a loose ball, before instantly signalling to the bench as he screamed in discomfort.

Bellerín has become hugely important to how the Gunners play under Emery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines could prove a huge blow.

“We are going to wait until tomorrow,” he told reporters. “It is his knee and the first prediction maybe can be an important injury.

“Tomorrow we will speak with the doctor. I hope not, but it is not very positive, our first impression.”

Saturday’s win was Bellerín’s first start since he suffered a calf injury against Southampton last month.

“We have Ainsley [Maitland-Niles],” Emery added when asked about transfer plans. “He is playing with good pieces, today also he played well I think.

“He can help us by playing like a right back or a right winger. Lichtsteiner is another player we can use – I think we have options.

“I don’t forget Jenkinson because he is with us, he played some matches and if we need him, he is okay to help us.”

Arsenal are in FA Cup action against Manchester United on Friday, before they host Cardiff in the Premier League four days later.
