The football landscape will look very different when the game returns, according to former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness.

Almost every league at all levels across the globe has been put on hold as the world aims to contain the spread of the virus.

As a result, when football does return, Hoeness offered a prediction of what we can expect – such as a much different transfer market.

“This does bring an opportunity for the game to be changed a little,” Hoeness told kicker.

“You can’t advise it but I can’t imagine €100 million transfers in the near future.

“Transfer fees will fall and the amounts won’t be able to reach the previous levels that they have in the last two or three years.

“Because all countries are affected by this. There will very likely be a new football world.”

That said, the 68-year-old is a little concerned about what could happen if the stoppage of the game drags on for too long.

“Even games without fans [in the stadium] guarantee the distribution of television money and if that happens, there will be no existential problem,” he added.

“If there are no games by Christmas, then the livelihood of the entire league is threatened.

“But anyone who makes a prediction about a possible start is a charlatan.”
