If you were hoping we might get a weekend without some VAR controversy in the Premier League, it was wishful thinking unfortunately.
After Liverpool fell behind to an early Trézéguet goal at Villa Park, Roberto Firmino thought he’d got the league leaders back on level terms.
But down at Stockley Park, VAR Martin Atkinson had other ideas …
Liverpool's Roberto Firmino was flagged offside before putting the ball in the net against Aston Villa and the decision was confirmed by VAR

Supporters on Twitter were most unimpressed …
Villa goal rightly given by VAR. Was level. But Firmino also level – goal ruled out by Martin Atkinson playing with the lines arbitrarily like the dick he is. Mané clipped in the box, fat old referee miles away books him. Salah grabbed round neck in the box, ignored as ever.

VAR just ruled this Liverpool goal offside. Further proof that VAR is the worst innovation in world football history. Scrap it. 😡😡 pic.twitter.com/bH3RHHOkcv

Same circumstances, both goals disallowed. VAR trying to be smart but ruining the game. An arm should not be a factor of an offside call pic.twitter.com/h3sVKs1HYM

Do anyone think that Firmino goal was onside? Don't understand how Twatkinson was trying to operate the VAR but everytime that bastard is officiating our game in any manner whatsoever, he does everything in his power to give decisions against us. Don't want him at our games. #LFC

It’s not VAR that’s the problem, it’s the incompetent people on the other end using it.
