Thomas Tuchel insists Kylian Mbappé can still improve despite quickly becoming one of the best players in world football.

The 20-year-old has scored 22 goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season, stepping up in the absence of Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

However, when asked about the best players he has managed, Tuchel opted to mention a pairing from his time with Borussia Dortmund instead.

“That’s a dangerous question!” he told reporters. “I’ve coached Aubameyang, Ousmane Dembélé… Auba will always remain in my heart.

“Kylian is exceptional, but Neymar and Cavani are also up there. Incredible players. We’re very happy with them.

“Everyone in the locker room knows how reliable and super important Mbappé is, but he still has things he needs to improve, even if that’s hard to believe.”

“It’s a combination of things,” the German added. “You have to push and protect them too. Marquinhos could become one of the best players in the world.

“I can’t always take credit. It’s a good time, which we savour, but it’s the hard work that allows us to do that. The mentality of the players allows us to do that too.

“Those things are necessary for us to achieve great things – that’s down to the merits of the players. We get a little bit of luck here and there but we have quality.”

PSG host Dijon in the Coupe de France on Tuesday, before travelling to relegation battling Caen on Saturday.
