The World Cup is the perfect place to poach a player. It’s also a great time for journalists to make up false rumours.
Not that we would ever do that, right?
Arsenal have been quite busy during this transfer window, for once, and Bild reports they have found their long-term replacement for Petr Čech. Reports say the Gunners have agreed to a €25m deal for Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. According to Bild, Arsenal and Leverkusen have been working out a transfer for several weeks and will finally let the German international get away. With Čech the subject of a surprise loan move to Napoli, as Pepe Reina will be off to AC Milan, it looks as if Unai Emery is coming in with a bang.
The Telegraph is reporting Everton are plotting a double scoop for Gelson Martins of Sporting and Matthijs De Ligt of Ajax. Although Marco Silva may be new and putting his impact on full display, we highly doubt 1) Everton have type of money, 2) they could land the players of that quality.
Sorry Everton, not happening.
Liam Henderson of second-division Bari is set to be the first Scottish player in Italy’s top flight in 32 years, reportedly heading to Fiorentina on a €2m move just months after signing with Bari for just over €100,000.
Leicester are looking to put pen to paper with Norwich attacking sensation James Maddison to a contract, reportedly heading to the former Premier League champions for a medical in the coming days in a €28.5m move.
Southampton are attempting to pick up Jack Wilshere, as Arsenal will look to trim their squad. West Ham, Wolves and AC Milan are also interested in the English product.
Antoine Greizmann put pen to paper for Atlético Madrid, signing a new deal along with fellow countryman Lucas Hernández. The club also officially signed Thomas Lemar.
Joe Allen decided to stick it out with Stoke City in the Championship, penning a new four-year deal.
Eden Hazard has invited Real Madrid to come at get him. This one is going to run and run. Sorry, folks.
Wolves continue to ride the Portuguese train, signing Rui Patrício. What a time to be alive.
