With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Tottenham’s all-time XI.
Yesterday we chose the first of three midfielders. Today we’re choosing the second.
Here are the nominees …
A World Cup winner when he joined Tottenham in 1978, Ardilles stayed for another six years and won the FA Cup and Uefa Cup during his time with the club.
A troubled genius but a genius no less, Paul Gascoigne came of age at Newcastle but it was in a Tottenham shirt that he showed the world just how good he really was. The flame that burns twice as bright goes for half as long.
Arguably Tottenham’s best ever player. MacKay was as good a midfielder as there has ever been in English football and played a major part in four of Tottenham’s most famous trophy wins. He was, as coach Bill Nicholson said, the “heartbeat” of the team.
Here’s how the team is looking so far …
GK: Pat Jennings RB: Sol Campbell LB: Gary Mabbutt CB: Ledley King CB:Mike England CM: Glenn Hoddle CM: Dave Mackay
Check back tomorrow when we will be choosing the third midfielder!
