With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Tottenham’s all-time XI.

Yesterday we completed our midfield. Today we’re choosing the first of our front three.

Here are the nominees …

3rd – Alan Gilzean

Scored 133 times across 433 games for Tottenham and was up front during their most successful three-year period ever.

Between 1971 and 1973 Alan Gilzean was the scourge of defenders across Europe and helped lead Spurs to three trophies, at home and abroad.

A stunning finisher who would finish his career as a member of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

2nd – Martin Chivers

At one point, English football’s most expensive player, Martin Chivers was a versatile forward player who also moved back into midfield at times.

Known as ‘Big Chiv’ his pace and natural athleticism were a huge asset and it was in 1971 that he truly announced himself as a Spurs legend.

Scoring 38 times that season, Chivers helped the north London side win the League Cup and scored twice in their famous Uefa Cup triumph a year later.

And the winner is … Jimmy Greaves

Perhaps the greatest goalscorer English football has ever produced.

Jimmy Greaves never quite got the recognition he deserved on account of him missing out on England’s World Cup triumph in 1966.

But for an idea of just how good he was, both Tottenham and Chelsea included him in their ‘Team of the Century’ back in 2000.

Greaves would only win three trophies during his nine-year stay in north London but the impact he made on the game was immeasurable.

Here’s how the team is looking so far …

GK: Pat Jennings RB: Sol Campbell LB: Gary Mabbutt CB: Ledley King CB: Mike England CM: Glenn Hoddle CM: Dave Mackay CM: Danny Blanchflower FW: Jimmy Greaves

Check back tomorrow when we will be choosing the second forward!
