After coming up short with their initial bid, Tottenham are lining up an improved offer for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men had a bid with an overall value of £53m already rejected by the Spanish side.
However, there have been indications that the offer was structured so that Spurs would pay just £35m up front, with the rest coming in add-ons.
The Daily Star now report that Tottenham are undeterred by the initial rejection and are set to table an increased bid in an attempt to secure Lo Celso’s services.
Spurs have turned down several other players that have been offered to them by intermediaries as they are determined to get a deal for the Argentine over the line.
In recent weeks, Pablo Sarabia of Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler have reportedly been offered to Tottenham, who were uninterested.
Tottenham are also keen to try to tie up a deal as quickly as possible, given that the former PSG man is part of the Argentina squad for the Copa América.
There is hope at Betis that a strong tournament showing from Lo Celso could drive up both interest in his signature and the value of the player.
Lo Celso, who scored 16 goals and provided five assists in all competitions last season, has an £89m release clause in his current contract at the Benito Villamarín.
