Tottenham will reportedly allow Heung-min Son to play in this summer’s Asian Games in the hope that he will avoid military service.

All South Korean males have to undertake two years of subscription before the age of 28, but sportsman can be exempt if they achieve ‘excellence’.

So far, Son has not achieved that with the national team and at 26, has two years to earn an exemption – something he would earn if he were to win a gold medal at the Asian Games next month.

And according to the London Evening Standard, the north London club will allow the attacker to play despite the timing of the tournament meaning he will miss a number of Premier League matches.

Spurs’ campaign gets under way against Newcastle on August 11. The Asian Games begin three days later, with the final on September 1.

If South Korea successfully defend their title, Son would miss the first four matches of the season, against Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester United and Watford.
