Tottenham have reportedly seen a €30m bid for Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara knocked back.
The 21-year-old has made just nine starts this season, finding himself marginalised under Carlo Ancelotti who prefers Allan and Fabián Ruiz in midfield.
However, according to Gazzetta, Spurs’ enquiry was rejected with Azzurri president Aurelio de Laurentiis hoping to spark a summer bidding war.
Mauricio Pochettino is targeting a midfielder following the January departure of Mousa Dembélé and persistent injury problems for Harry Winks.
Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier are also battling for their futures in North London after enduring stop/start seasons.
Despite their bid being rejected, Gazzetta believe Spurs will return with an improved bid for Diawara, who are also targeting Celta midfielder Stanislav Lobotka.
