Toronto FC are close to finalising a deal that will keep Brazilian right-back Auro in Toronto.

The 22-year-old was acquired by TFC in February on a season-long loan from São Paulo FC with an option to buy.

Auro became a regular starter for TFC in 2018 and registered five assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

However, TFC are set to return Ager Aketxe back to Spain after a disappointing stint in Canada after arriving from Athletic Bilbao.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder provided just one assist in 14 appearances in MLS and CONCACAF Champions League competition before he was sent back to Spain in July on a six-month loan to Cadiz.

Aketxe currently has one goal and two assists in 12 appearances in the Segunda División.

TFC will likely have to pay most of his salary should Aketxe remain in Spain. According to the MLS Player’s Association, he made €1.2m in 2018.
