According to The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio, Celtic have offered to hand 22-year-old left-back Andrew Gutman a contract.

Last month, it was reported that, after spending a week on trial with Rangers, Gutman and fellow American player Matt Polster of the Chicago Fire had been offered contracts with Steven Gerrard’s side.

Tenorio reports that it is likely that Gutman will sign with the Parkhead side after Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire offered Gutman a minimum-value contract as a Homegrown Player.

Homegrown Players, who are players that are signed directly from a team’s academy, do not count against a team’s budget.

Major League Soccer have attempted to raise Gutman’s domestic offer to keep him in MLS, with many other sides interested.

However, after mulling over the offers, it appears Gutman will sign with Celtic.

Polster will not re-sign with the Chicago Fire and has also been offered a contract with Rangers and is likely to accept their terms.

After he featured in 79 matches for the Fire in his first three MLS seasons, the 25-year-old right-back, who can also play in the centre of the park, played just three games in 2018 before he succumbed to a knee injury.

Polster has earned one cap for the United States, going the full 90 in a scoreless draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina last January.
