After suffering a hip injury in the first half of the season, Aston Villa took Tom Carroll in, believing that he could play a part in their chase for Premier League promotion.

However, he only played two games and has made the decision to get surgery in order to focus on the 2019-2020 season.

As a result, Aston Villa has terminated his loan and returned Carroll back to Swansea.

“We’ve come to the end with all possible other solutions with his hip,” said Swansea City manager Graham Potter.

“He’s had a disappointing season in that regard so he’s had surgery to fix it.

“He’ll be back next week to start his rehab and looking to be back at the start of next season.”

Aston Villa are currently in sixth place, on a five-match winning streak, and face former manager Steve Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
