Bayern Munich stalwart Thomas Müller has admitted that he is open to leaving his boyhood club should they continue to use him as a substitute.
The 30-year-old has started just three times in the Bundesliga this season and will likely see his playing time reduced even further following the arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
Coach Niko Kovač revealed last month that he could not fit Müller and Coutinho in the same starting XI, and the Germany international has conceded that he could look for other options if the problems persist.
“Absolutely not. I’ve just turned 30, I feel top fit and hungry for success – with the club and also at a personal level. I’m firmly convinced that I can help the team with my abilities on the pitch,” he told Kicker.
“A coach has difficult decisions to make before every game. However, there has been a trend in the past five games that doesn’t make me happy.
“If the coaching team see me as a substitute in the future, I have to think about my situation. I’m just too ambitious for that.
“The media have been speculating wildly over the last few days. I won’t take part in that. Now, it’s all about putting the focus back on football in order to have success with Bayern in the coming weeks.
“As for the competition for places, I won’t let up, and I will continue to give my all in training and games. There’s nothing more I can say about that.”
