Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier has promised to remain at Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

After an impressive World Cup, Meunier had offers from elsewhere but wants to remain in France and battle Dani Alves for a place in the team.

“There has been interest, big clubs, but in my mind, it is obvious that I will stay in Paris,” Meunier told Belgian daily L’Avenir.

Discussions with the club have led to the defender deciding he could even extend his contract, which runs for just two more seasons. With Dani Alves now 35, Meunier is likely to have plenty of opportunities under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

“The message seems clear: they are counting on me. My World Cup has certainly changed things, to the point that they now want to extend my contract.

“I would not want leave the PSG with a taste of too little. I want to fully enjoy the success in Paris.”
