With record signing Joelinton struggling for goals, Newcastle are ready to look for a new striker this month.

Here are the players the club are reportedly interested in.

Olivier Giroud/Michy Batshuayi

One of the two Chelsea reserve strikers is likely to leave Stamford Bridge in January but the Blues have suitors for both.

Giroud and Batshuayi are behind Tammy Abraham in Frank Lampard’s pecking order and the Chelsea boss reportedly wants to add another striker to compete for the role. That would leave this pair out in the cold.

The Athletic have backed up reports that both players are on Newcastle’s list.

Whether or not the Magpies can stump up an offer that makes Chelsea budge remains to be seen.

Alfredo Morelos

A proven goalscorer, Morelos has found the back of the net 58 times in 83 appearances since the start of last season.

But he’s also picked up 22 yellow cards and seven reds in that time. With a disciplinary record like that, Rangers would have little issue selling the Colombian if a fair offer came in.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, that offer would have to be in the region of £40m. Maybe Dwight Gayle could be offered as a makeweight to bring the price down?

Glenn Murray

Out of favour at Brighton, Murray certainly has plenty of Premier League experience and offers a cheaper alternative.

The Athletic say no contact has been made for the 36-year-old but a late approach isn’t out of the question if Newcastle don’t sign one of their main targets.

Krzysztof Piątek

With the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimović at Milan, Piątek is suddenly set to find himself playing second (or third) fiddle.

Signed this time last year, the Pole has struggled for goals in recent months, netting just four in 18 Serie A appearances so far this season.

The Athletic say a deal would be complicated but reports elsewhere suggest Newcastle would look to loan the striker until the end of the season.

Ryan Babel

The ex-Liverpool man surprisingly impressed with Fulham in the second half of last season and could make yet another return to English football.

Eurosport are claiming a move is now being discussed for the Dutchman, with Ajax also said to be in the running.
