Timão’s new black and gold third jersey has been designed to honour Senna – a three-time Formula 1 champion and Corinthians supporter – who was killed in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Senna was a passionate football fan and one of the most famous photos ever taken of the Brazilian icon showed him wearing a white shirt with the Corinthians crest peeping out from under his red driving overalls.

Senna has never been forgotten by Corinthians and the club are constantly paying tribute to the former driver.

In Parque São Jorge, a racing helmet worn by Senna is displayed along with the words: “In the chest of the cold and brave pilot beats a Corinthian heart.”

In 2014, the club’s players also entered the field for a Copa do Brasil game all wearing Senna helmets.

But now, Corinthians have released the finest homage of all with their new third strip.

The shirt features Senna’s signature, gold details in reference to Lotus cars used in 1985 and 1986, and 41 stripes which represent each of the legendary driver’s victories.

The new jersey will make its debut when Corinthians host Flamengo on Friday.
