Borussia Dortmund have now agreed a deal in principle to re-sign Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich this summer.

That’s according to Bild, who report on Sunday that Hummels will return to the Westfalenstadion in a deal worth €20m plus bonuses.

Sky Germany had previously reported that the 30-year-old’s transfer fee would be €30m and it seems the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Hummels is reportedly set to sign a three-year contract with the club he left to join Bayern in a deal worth €38m in 2016.

However, Kicker report that the two clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee with Bayern said to be holding out for more money than Dortmund are currently offering.

The German international defender came through the youth system at Bayern before joining Dortmund permanently in 2009.

He went on to make over 300 appearances for BVB across six years, winning two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal along the way.

According to a report by Süddeutsche Zeitung, Hummels has actually been considering returning to Dortmund since 2017, when Thomas Tuchel was linked with the vacant manager’s job at the Allianz Arena following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.

Tuchel and Hummels are said to have a problematic relationship and if the current Paris Saint-Germain boss had taken over at Bayern, the centre-back reportedly would have left.

But in the end, Jupp Heynckes took the job and Hummels ended up staying put.
