Another Bundesliga matchday, another weekend of drama, talk about VAR and Domenico Tedesco having the whole world against him. He must feel like that, anyway.

Here are our Onefootball awards from the Bundesliga weekend.

The ‘Poorly Constructed Roof’ Award

At least Schalke won something. The Royal Blues are on zero points after four matchdays.

They had the roof closed for Saturday’s visit of Bayern Munich but it did rain in the home dugout. We aren’t kidding. Domenico Tedesco was the only person in the stadium feeling the force of nature thanks to an issue with the roof.

Holes in the roof, holes in the defence. It was a long evening.

The ‘Fine line between love and hate’ Award

That goes to Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim owner Dietmar Hopp.

With 32 Dortmund fans banned from attending the game – they sung songs about Hopp’s mother last season – the rest of the away section made their feelings known.

What a beautiful relationship BVB and Hopp have. Dietmar, that is. Let’s keep his mother out of this.

The ‘Emotions of a tree’ Award

That goes to Manuel Baum, whose last name literally translates to ‘tree’. Clever, right?

Augsburg goalkeeper Fabian Giefer made a huge error to hand a goal to guests Werder Bremen and it got his head coach a bit teary eyed.

Goalkeeping mistakes are annoying but they are also human, as are the people who make them. Giefer has taken a lot of stick of late and it clearly affected his boss as he admitted to Sky that the performances haven’t been good enough. It’s nice to see Baum is so close to his players and so understanding.

The ‘Oktoberfest is here!’ Award

Oktoberfest has begun and Bayern Munich are in the mood.

Another weekend, another win. It’ll be beer showers all round come May. Again.

The ‘What does VAR do?’ Award

There’s a basement in Cologne where qualified officials oversee Bundesliga games to make sure hideous errors aren’t made.

They don’t do it very well.

Hannover’s Miiko Albornoz wrongly saw red for ‘fouling’ Nürnberg’s Virgil Misidjan. Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic somehow didn’t get a penalty when Nico Schulz trod on his foot inside the area.

What the hell do they get up to in that basement?

The ‘Ralf v Rangnick’ Award

Ralf Rangnick is the sporting director of RB Leipzig and he will not be happy with their results, nor their performances. If this goes on much longer, he’ll probably have to consider sacking head coach Ralf Rangnick. Wait, what?

Yes, Rangnick is in charge of the team while they wait for Julian Nagelsmann to arrive at the end of the season. The thing is, he isn’t doing a very good job.

We’ll have to wait and see whether or not the 60-year-old sporting director fires the 60-year-old coach. Maybe they can settle their differences.

The ‘If you’re good enough, you’re old enough’ Award

Mainz may not have picked up any points this weekend but they have seven points from the opening four games of the season, the present is looking just fine.

The future? That may get even better. The team that started against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday was the youngest Mainz have fielded in Bundesliga history, with an average age of 22 years and 288 days. Impressive.
