The Great Debate: Where should José Mourinho go next?

The Special One. The Happy One. The Unemployed One.

We’re approaching a year since José Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United and despite claims – mainly from Duncan Castles and himself – that he’s one of the best coaches in the world, as yet no one will touch the two-time Champions League winner.

Where though, should he go next?

Inside a rocket fired into space?

If that’s not an option, then for me the best place for José Mourinho right now is international management. That way, we only have to hear him spout his nonsense four times a year.

How about Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

After the way he flopped at Manchester United, I feel Mourinho’s time as a top level coach may already be over and he should take on a more humble assignment next.

I think a club like Everton would suit him perfectly. He knows the Premier League well and if he can do a similar job to the one he did at Porto all those years ago, he could be the man to get that talented but underperforming Toffees squad finally moving in the right direction.

With only a handful of big jobs available and Jose inevitably bringing a real circus with him, I think he should move to a club with a little less fan fare.

As a young manager at Porto and Chelsea, he really took on big challenges and upset the status quo, so maybe he could get back to that by going somewhere like Monaco, or perhaps a return to Portuguese football with Porto.

I’ve no doubt he’ll bring them back up to a Champions League standard.

To the beach and enjoy an early retirement José.

He isn’t going to do it, of course, and likely feels he still has plenty to offer as a top level coach.

But he has looked utterly miserable and sapped of all energy during his recent time in the dugout and is actually a refreshing addition as an analyst and pundit.
