Liverpool may have won the Champions League final but they didn’t exactly thrill the crowd in doing so.

For large spells, their 2-0 win over Spurs was drab, long spells of boredom bookended by early and late goals.

I have never, ever, been as bored as I was watching the 2007 FA Cup final.

So few chances, a game played at walking pace, two defensive approaches. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.

The 2014 World Cup final between Germany and Argentina was all kinds of dross.

I don’t think you necessarily need goals to make a good game but this one produced none until Mario Götze stabbed home the winner in the 113th minute and very few meaningful chances for either side beforehand.

Yawn.

Arsenal beating Aston Villa in the 2015 FA Cup final was boring. There was such a gap in quality between the two sides, and for large parts it looked like an attack vs defence exercise.

Quite a contrast from the year before where the Gunners just about scraped past Hull.

It was a brilliant story. A footballing minnow, claiming their first ever prize on one of the biggest stages in international football. But Jesus Christ, was it dull.

Greece’s 1-0 win over Portugal in the final of Euro 2004 has to go down as the most boring in the history of the game? On the bright side, it did make Cristiano Ronaldo cry.

The 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands was utterly dismal – made only entertaining by Nigel de Jong’s assault on Xabi Alonso and Andrés Iniesta’s extra-time winner.

It was as brutal on the field as it was to watch, ending with a record 14 yellow cards and a red being handed out by referee Howard Webb.
