The Good 😀 The Bad 😕 The Ugly 👹: FA Cup chaos and PL goals galore

Four FA Cup quarter-finals gave us four semi-finalists. Five Premier League fixtures gave us a wacky 19 goals and a new leader at the top of the table.

FA Cup drama

Every year people talk about the cup meaning less, and every year it’s nonsense.

Swansea City were absolutely superb and unlucky to lose to Manchester City.

Millwall v Brighton gave us a thrilling second half and penalty shootout.

Wolves were brilliant and deservedly provided the ‘upset’ we were desperate for against Manchester United.

The FA Cup still means a lot to people, including ‘big boys’ City who will still have a historic quadruple on the cards.

Everton

We could sit here and talk about Chelsea’s misgivings and it’s oh so tempting. This week, though, we’ll resist.

Everton were everything they haven’t been this season on Sunday. They were intelligent, they were gutsy, and after the break they were adventurous.

They got their rewards too, ending a horrendously long wait for a win against one of the ‘top six’.

Marco Silva needs more games like this if he’s to make his mark at Goodison.

Wolves

Lastly, a quick word for Wolves. Much better than Everton this season but a similarly massive result against Manchester United. Raúl Jiménez and Diogo Jota are a fearsome pair.

They’re off to Wembley and Nuno Espirito Santo looks more of a genius each week.

The Bad

Liverpool (minus Sadio Mané)

Jürgen Klopp’s side got over the line on Sunday and they may just get over the line in the title race but boy are they huffing and puffing on the way there.

This was far from a solid performance and Liverpool rarely threatened the league’s worst defence.

Sadio Mané is exempt from this thanks to his fine form but Mohamed Salah is struggling to have an impact and the midfield has nowhere near enough guile.

Then at the back, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk even shook for Fulham’s equaliser.

If Liverpool can’t rely on those two they’re in big trouble. But for now they’re still fighting.

Huddersfield Town

For just the second time this season, Huddersfield scored more than once in a Premier League game. And then they scored again!

All before conceding three goals in the final 15 minutes and letting West Ham steal the three points.

The Terriers are 16 points from safety and it could all be over after just one more game. You have to feel for them.

The Ugly

VAR

Article image:The Good 😀 The Bad 😕 The Ugly 👹: FA Cup chaos and PL goals galore

Back to the FA Cup, where the ridiculous lack of VAR at Championship grounds cost Swansea and almost cost Brighton.

How can the FA justify using the system at some matches but not at others when we’re as deep in as the quarter-finals?

Swansea were robbed. Brighton had a late winner wrongly disallowed before going on to win on penalties..

An absolute catastrophe.
