We are only two weeks into the Premier League season and there are already enough talking points to do us ’til Christmas.
Much of Norwich City’s hopes this season appeared to hinge on how top scorer Teemu Pukki would adapt to life in the top flight.
Well, he has adapted seamlessly, showing the same killer instinct and ice cool composure in front of goal that he did in the Championship.
The Canaries have scored four goals this season, all coming from Pukki, whose latest heroics put Newcastle to the sword with a deadly hat-trick.
Slick Spanish midfield stars have become something of a tradition at Arsenal in recent history, with the likes of Cesc Fàbregas and Santi Cazorla.
And now there is another for the Emirates to adore – with Dani Ceballos announcing himself with a sublime showing against Burnley.
🌟 @DaniCeballos46 was named man of the match in #ARSBUR 🗣 Here's @AdrianJClarke to highlight why...–
He had more touches (97) and passes (70) than any other players on the pitch, with two of them ending in goals.
This guy has signing of the season written all over him.
There is simply no reasonable justification for Manchester City having Gabriel Jesus’ last gasp goal against Tottenham ruled out.
By the letter of the ridiculous new law (and don’t get it confused, this is a rulebook issue – not a VAR one), it was the right decision to chalk it off.
But if a player showing zero intent is penalised for something he likely wasn’t even aware of is enough to rule out a goal, we’re heading for big trouble.
By all accounts, fitness fanatic Frank Lampard has worked his Chelsea players hard this summer with double sessions and exhausting routines.
Against Leicester City on Sunday, their issues in that area appeared to crop up again as for the third straight game, they fell away after a strong start.
The Blues bossed the early going at Stamford Bridge before fading after the interval, as they had against Manchester United and Liverpool, and were lucky not to lose.
His Derby County side did come on strong late in the campaign last year though so there is no reason to be too downbeat yet.
No sooner was Jürgen Klopp quoting Sylvester Stallone in homage to his new goalkeeper, it all went wrong.
New man Adrián’s horror error at St Mary’s was more akin to the Clubber Lang KO than the Rocky Balboa redemption story it was painted out to be.
You can’t use his pre-match fitness concerns as an excuse for that shambolic pass and alarm bells will be ringing at Anfield.
