The Good

Manchester City’s resilience

What Manchester City did on Saturday was not easy.

They suffered the cruellest of Champions League heartbreaks less than 72 hours previously.

Then they had to face the same opposition at the same venue, so a sense of PTSD was in the air.

But youngster Phil Foden, who hadn’t featured in midweek, came in to save the day against Spurs with a crucial goal.

Hauling themselves back off the canvas and refocusing deserves immense credit.

Ayoze does it

Ayoze Pérez has been something of a figure of frustration at St James’ Park.

You know the quality he possesses but inconsistency can make him a polarising figure among the fans.

There is no question though that on his day, he is deadly and he showed that on Saturday.

He took his tally for the campaign to a Premier League-high 10 goals with a hat-trick against Southampton which will see his side to safety.

Given his ability, regularly getting double goals in a season should be well within his reach.

The Bad

Ole’s in trouble

Each passing game for Manchester United is proof that their decision to give Solskjaer the job permanently was very rash.

Since being handed the permanent reins, the Norwegian has lost four of six games and been unimpressive in the two victories.

Their latest loss was the worst yet as they were defensively shambolic and tactically inept in their 4-0 loss at Everton.

Things have gotten stale after a positive start and the performances in April have not been close to the required standard.

A big clearout is needed and although it will not happen, it would perhaps be wise to start in the dugout.

Shocking Shkodran

For an experienced presence at the back, Shkodran Mustafi does anything but fill you with confidence.

Against Crystal Palace on Sunday evening, he was all at sea yet again.

Disorganised defensively for Christian Benteke’s opener, he was a calamity for the second.

The 27-year-old inexplicably decided to stop tracking the run of Wilfried Zaha, who was thankful to nip in and score.

His reaction in angrily looking around elsewhere to find blame was rather amusing, even if his defending was not.

The Ugly

‘Boring’ Brighton

The performance of Brighton at Molineux didn’t go down well with Wolves fans and neutrals alike.

They sat in, defended their 18-yard box and left with the point they came for.

It certainly wasn’t pretty viewing but Chris Hughton’s side were in desperate need of stopping the rot and they did.

The point may be enough to keep them up but it might not be enough for the manager.

The football is grim viewing and the team haven’t scored a league goal since 9 March.
