Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals speak for themselves. There are a lot of them and they come in all shapes and sizes.
The Portuguese is undoubtedly one of the finest goalscorers the game has ever seen.
But his kryptonite may have been discovered. A Uruguayan defensive pairing forged in Madrid have NEVER conceded a goal to Ronaldo.
We are, of course, talking about Diego Gódin and José Gímenez.
Tuesday’s Champions League game between Juventus and Atlético Madrid was the sixth time Ronaldo has faced the centre-back duo. And the sixth time he has failed to score.
During his time with Real Madrid, Ronaldo scored 22 goals in 32 Madrid derbies. But he failed to score in all four against a Gódin-Gímenez partnership.
He also faced the duo at last summer’s World Cup, when Portugal met Uruguay at the last 16 stage. He failed to score again.
And then came Tuesday. Another blank for Cristiano Ronaldo.
He will almost certainly have to change that if Juventus are to overturn their 2-0 first leg defeat when the teams meet again next month.
