Tanguy Ndombèlé has revealed how Mauricio Pochettino ‘shifted his decision’ to join Tottenham this summer.
Ndombèlé was attracting interest from Real Madrid and Juventus, but it was Spurs who won the race for his signature, spending a club-record €62m to sign him from Lyon.
And despite winning their last trophy in 2008, the France international believes he can ‘reach the next level’ at White Hart Lane.
“They have a young team with very good players,” he told L’Equipe. “When a club are Champions League finalists, you have to look at their project.
“To put €70m on the table for me, it was a strong signal. When I look at Tottenham, I see a big European club. To reach the next level, it was the best choice.”
“Pochettino is one of the best managers in the world,” the 22-year-old added. “He was the one who ultimately shifted my decision.
“But I am here to make my own path. Paul (Pogba) has made his own in England. I am Tanguy, not the new Essien, not the new Pogba. I am me.”
Ndombèlé made 96 appearances for Lyon, scoring 4 goals and assisting 16.
