It looks like Tammy Abraham could finally be getting his chance at Chelsea in the 2019/20 season.

The academy striker has spent the last three seasons on loan at Bristol City, Swansea and Aston Villa but is currently gearing up for the new campaign with the Blues first-team squad.

And after he netted in Tuesday’s friendly victory against Barcelona in Saitama, the 21-year-old hinted that he could officially be handed the honour of being the club’s new No. 9 in the coming season.

“I’m honoured to wear the No. 9 shirt at Chelsea,” he said.

“I spoke to the manager and he asked me if I’m ready to take it and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m ready.’ So I’m glad he offered the No. 9.

“Football brings a lot of pressure. It drives me on. It gives me the extra belief.

“I’ve heard all the rubbish about the No. 9. I’m here to play my game and do my best.”

Chelsea are yet to officially confirm their squad numbers for the new season but the No. 9 has been left vacant following Gonzalo Higuaín’s departure.

Abraham scored 25 goals to help Aston Villa earn promotion from the Championship last season.
