Swansea boss Graham Potter has admitted that the club will have to respect the wishes of Daniel James this summer.

James impressed once again on Tuesday night as he grabbed a goal and an assist in their 3-0 win over Brentford.

The Wales international’s future is up in the air after a move to Leeds in January was foiled right at the last minute.

That speculation won’t go away though, and Potter has conceded that although he hopes the 21-year-old stays in south Wales, the club will have to “respect his wishes” come the summer.

“I want him to stay here and help him improve, I want to enable him to be at the top of the game for as long as he can be,” Potter told reporters after the game.

“The most important thing for me is he is enjoying his football and improving. It’s his first season in senior football and he still has a lot to do. He shows real quality and real courage in what he’s trying to do.

“We are pleased to have him, but you have to respect the individual and respect he has got his career to think about. All I can do is be here for him and help him.”

Leeds are likely to make another bid for the wide man come the end of the season but are now reportedly set to battle the likes of Everton and Newcastle for his signature.
