Although a resolution has not yet been reached on the latest takeover at Sunderland, it is expected to ultimately go through.
It had been hoped that the deal would have been completed by late last week by businessman Mark Campbell.
But the Sunderland Echo report that talks will continue this week and a positive outcome is expected from the latest discussions.
Campbell met various senior figures at the club last week and held talks with current owner Stewart Donald about his aims and plans for the club.
As part of the deal, Donald is still set to retain a considerable stake in the club and will hold a prominent role in the new regime.
Both the club and Campbell are keen to ensure a deal is reached, meaning more talks will take place as they aim to come to an agreement.
Given the confidence from all concerned with the takeover going through, Sunderland have given the green light to signings for the summer.
The only transfer business so far have been departures but that could be set to change in the coming days.
